Can Dogs Eat Cantaloupe As A Treat In The Summer?
As summer arrives, so is the need for fresh healthy fruits and frozen treats that can keep your pooch happy and hydrated. Cantaloupe has lots of beta-carotene, which reduces the risk of cancer and prevents cell damage.
Cantaloupe is also among the most famous summer treats, as it is full of water and healthy nutrients. You can give it raw to your beagle, just remove the seeds, ripe it and cut it into small slices and enjoy. It is a great natural source of dietary fiber, vitamin B6, niacin, folate, vitamin A, vitamin C, and potassium.
Just like any other fruit, you need to control your dog’s intake. Feed him on it in small portions to avoid any gastrointestinal issues. Keep in mind that cantaloupe is full of sugar, so it is to be avoided for diabetic or obese dogs.
I usually feed my beagle on small frozen slices. He loves to lick on them and enjoy the sweet taste. It is a great snack to keep him busy and hydrated.
There are many ways to prepare frozen cantaloupe treats during the summer. My favorite recipe is the cantaloupe doggy popsicles.
Mix cantaloupe, sugar with heavy cream in a blender until you get a smooth texture.
Pour the mixture evenly into popsicle shapes. Add popsicle sticks to the middle of each cup. Put it in the freezer until fully frozen, at least 4 hours.
- 1/2 cantaloupe, halved, seeded, peeled and diced.
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons of sweeteners.
You can play with the shapes by using any popsicle mold.
Cantaloupe is very safe to feed to your beagle. But you have to take note that you should avoid it if your dog is diabetic or obese. We would love to hear about your recipes in the comments section.
